고등학교 영어 2종 교과용 도서(영어 Ⅰ, Ⅱ) 도로 교통 안전 관련 내용 개선 연구

본 논문은 현행 고등학교 영어 교과서에 수록된 도로 교통 안전 관련 내용을 분석하여 그 내용을 개선하고자 하는데 목적을 둔다. 다시 말해서, 제6차 교육과정에 따른 영어 교과서에 수록된 교통 안전 내용을 분석하여 제 7차 교육과정 혹은 제 8차 교육과정에 의거하여 개발될 영어 교과서 내용에 참고가 될 수 있도록 한다. 영어 교과에는 교통 안전에 대한 내용이 비교적 적게 반영되어 있지만, 극히 최근에 들어서 학생들의 세계 배낭 여행이라든지 매일 통학할 때와 같은 일상생활은 물론, 학생들의 취미 등 여가 생활 등이 교통 안전과 밀접하게 연관되어 있어 영어 교과서 개발시 영어권의 교통 안전과 관련된 내용에 대한 개선 연구를 할 필요성이 대두되고 있는 실정이다. 더욱이 영어권 문화 속에서 이루어지는 자연스런 일상 생활의 의사 소통 문맥이나 상황들이 영어권의 문화가 교차되고 세계가 점점 좁아지고 있는 상황을 감안하면 이와 관련된 연구물들이 많이 있어야한다. 먼저, 현행 교과서에 수록된 교통 안전 내용을 분석하기 위해서 고등학교 영어 2종 교과용 도서 2, 3학년에 해당하는 영어 I, 영어 II 교과서 34권(17종)을 분석하여 교통 안전 관련 내용을 찾아보고, 이를 비교하여 제시하였다. 그 분석 결과, 앞으로 개선되어야 할 점들을 다음과 같이 정리할 수 있다. 즉, 학습자 중심의 교육과정 실현, 교통 상황을 정확하고 현실감 있게 묘사하는 삽화 제시, 학년별 난이도를 고려한 내용 선정, 선정된 내용의 체계적 조직화, 교사용 지도서 등에 교통 안전 관련 참고 자료 제공, 가정과의 연계 지도 고려, 세계 시민으로서의 의식과 태도 함양, 외국의 경우와 비교하여 그 차이점을 통해 문화적인 이해 및 외국의 교통 안전 대책을 통해 바람직한 개선 내용을 고등학교 영어 2종 교과용 도서(영어 I, II) 개발에 참고가 될 수 있도록 한다.

This paper suggests several points to improve the contents related on traffic safety in high school English textbooks : English I and English II based on the 6th national curriculum. The reason why this paper analyze the contents of traffic safety is that the contents of traffic safety should be improved and added new and modern topics and materials to the English textbooks which will be developed according to the 7th national curriculum. Traffic safety is so closely related to our real life. The contents of traffic safety in high school English textbooks was analyzed critically according to the 6th national curriculum.

The textbooks are English I and English II for high school students. The total number of the textbooks are 34 (17 types). As a result, this paper emphasizes the realization of student - oriented curriculum, the selection of the realistic illustration on traffic situation, the systematization of the selected contents, the connection of home study, the recognition of the citizenship in the world, and the suggestion of real directions through foreign traffic safety.
