요약

이 논문은 교육목적이 학생의 이익을 도모해야 한다는 항진(恒眞)을 받아들였을 경우, 교사의 ‘가르치는 일’이 이타적 특성보다는 교사의 이익에 부합하는 것으로 이해될 수 있는가를 논의하였다. 논의의 결과, 교사의 가르치는 일은 우리가 일상적으로 생각하는 바와 달리, 이기적인 속성을 갖추고 있으며, 이기적인 속성을 통하여 마침내 학생들의 이익을 도모한다는 이타적인 속성을 드러낸다는 것을 확인하였다. 그렇지 않으면 교사의 ‘가르치는 일’은 학생의 이익을 도모한다는 본래의 목적을 달성할 수 없을 뿐만 아니라 교사는 이중인격적인 존재로 왜곡될 수 있다.
