다문화교육의 도덕과 교과교육적 적용에 대한 연구

한국사회는 그동안 문화적ㆍ인종적 차이로 인해 크게 드러나는 사회적 문제가 많지 않았다. 그러나 90년대 중반부터 본격적으로 시작된 외국인 노동자의 유입과 외국인 배우자와의 혼인 증가, 양성평등에 대한 인식변화, 사회계층의 정치적․경제적 양극화 현상, 성적 지향성(sexual orientation)에 대한 인식변화, 지역과 능력에 따른 차이의 심화, 외모를 중시하는 사회 분위기의 확대 등이 나타나면서, 다양성을 인정하는 시각의 정립을 토대로 사회통합을 이루어야 한다는 도덕교육적 과제가 나타났다.

따라서 다문화사회에 대응하여 도덕과 교육이 다문화교육을 어떻게 받아들여야 하는가에 대한 방향성을 모색할 필요가 있다. 도덕과 교육 내에서의 다문화교육의 목표, 내용, 방법 등을 새 교육 과정안을 통해 분석하고 대안을 제시해 보면, 목표에서는 다양한 문화와 가치관을 이해하고 인정하며 합의에 이르도록 참여를 촉진하여야 한다는 의견이 포함되어야 하고, 내용에서는 민족, 인종, 능력, 부, 성, 지역, 연령, 장애, 신념과 종교, 이데올로기, 가족 구성, 성 정체성, 외모 등을 포함하여 다문화 관련 교육내용을 확대해야 하며, 방법에서는 덕목 중심 교육방법과 도덕판단력 중심 교육방법에 다문화교육적 요소를 반영한 교수모형을 적용할 필요가 있다. 이러한 목표, 내용, 방법의 다문화교육적 적용에 있어서 공통적인 전제는, 다양한 문화와 가치관을 인정하고 포용해야만 도덕과 교육이 다문화시대에 발전적인 공동체의 가치통합에 기여할 수 있다는 믿음이다.

Due to the fact of globalization and the development of information technology, Korea has experienced the multicultural features such as increasing immigrant laborers, intermarriage, polarization between socio-economic classes, sexism, and racism. Those experiences promote Korean moral education to include mulicultural education which deals with the tolerance and the non-discrimination among students and citizens.

Though the national curriculum of Korean moral education has an interest on multicultural education, its purpose, contents and instructional methods is not enough to cope with the multicultural problems of Korean society. In a less abstract way, Korean moral curricular purpose need to embrace the multicultural concept of integration of a society that a real social cohesion can be achieved only by acknowledging and respecting diverse cultural values in society, not by oppressing and acculturalizing them.
